CAPUT I. [Chapter I]

Beata et gloriosa semper Virgo Maria de stirpe regia et familia Dauid oriunda, in ciuitate Nazareth nata, Hierosolymis in templo Domini nutrita fuit.

[Blessed and eternally glorious, the Virgin Mary was related to the royal bloodline and family of David, born in the city of Nazareth, and grew up in the Lord's temple in Jerusalem.]

 Pater eius Ioachim, mater uero Anna dicebatur.

[Joachim is said to be her real father, and Anna her mother.]

  Domus paterna ex Galilaea et ciuitate Nazareth :

[Her father's home was in the city of Nazareth in the region of Galilee.]

maternum autem genus ex Bethlehem erat.

[On the other hand, her mother's family was from Bethlehem.]


Vita eorum simplex et recta apud Dominum, apud homines irreprehensibilis erat et pia.

[Their lives were simple and in accordance to the Lord's will, and Mary was chaste and never fell into disrepute in the presence of men.]
