Brunetto Latini, saggista e poeta, maestro intellettuale di Dante e «padre della lingua italiana» nacque a Firenze verso il 1220, figlio di un giudice. Fu notaio e cancelliere del Comune fiorentino.
 [Brunetto Latini, scholar and poet, was the intellectual instructor of Dante and the "father of the Italian tongue", born in Florence in 1220, the son of a judge. He was a notary and chancellor of the city of Florence.]

A causa delle lotte intestine di Firenze passò un lungo periodo (tra il 1260 e il 1266) d'esilio in Francia.
[Because of infighting, he spent a long time from Florence, from 1260 to 1266, in exile in France.]

Morì nel 1294 o 1295 a Firenze e fu sepolto in Santa Maria Maggiore.
[He died in 1294 or 1295 in Florence, and was buried in the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore.]
