Si pro virtute et animo fortunam habuissem,
[If I had wealth instead of my good traits and intelligence,]

magnificum monumentum hic aedifica<vi>ssem tibi.
[I would have built a magnificent monument for you here.]

Nunc, quoniam omnes mortui idem sapimus, satis est.
[But now, since we know that the dead are equals, it is enough.]
